A wedding is a beautiful, joyous occasion. Until you have to pay for it.

That’s when all the tears, kicking, and screaming come into play.  TV shows like “Platinum Weddings” and even some of the more toned down wedding shows are all about showing how much people splurge and go all out on a wedding. The market for weddings is huge, so it’s no wonder the TV shows, magazines, catalogs and all other media want you to believe you must spend beyond your means to have a great wedding. That simply isn’t true.

My fiance and I got engaged in 2007. When we started taking into account all the details and true costs associated to having the 180 person extravaganza we were looking for, we stopped dead in our tracks and called it off. Paying for it ourselves, even though we both have jobs, was going to mean debt. Debt is no way to start a married life (at least in my opinion).

Two years later, we’re back on the marriage track and this time we have newer, better ideas to cut costs. Like a smaller guest list. And elegant invites for $20. Do-it-yourself programs. True bargains on wedding dresses and accessories.

So, if you are not put off by buying fab discounted items on eBay and other awesome sites, if you are not intimidated by stretching the powers of your computer and perhaps learning a graphic program, and if you are willing to put a little elbow grease into your wedding, you too can cut your budget down to size and put your money where it counts.

City girl, country girl, whatever kind of party you want to throw, hopefully these tips will help you get creative. Share yours too! We’ll also explore some of the Boston area venues in a mythbusters style – why waste your time running around to all these different sites only to find out they have a $27,000 minimum? Let the Boston Bride be your guide!

    Dear Boston Wedding,

Since brides and grooms in Boston and readers from near and far follow your blog, I wanted to share with you this new, fun application for media sharing. Kaptur is a fresh perspective on how to capture and relive favorite memories, and we were recently featured on Mashable!

Kaptur is free, easy and, if we don’t say so ourselves, AWESOME!

Kaptur (http://weddings.kaptur.com/) organizes pictures taken by friends and family from someone’s wedding. It is a Facebook application that creates ONE wedding album of pictures from the attendees—it instantly imports photos uploaded to Facebook, Flickr, and other file sharing websites. All the bride or groom has to do to is go to the Kaptur website, sign in with Facebook or email address and enter the wedding date.

After, the couple will be able to click on any or all of the friends and family who attended (or those who will be attending the wedding) and Kaptur will compile all of the pictures they took in chronological order onto a personal wedding website!

The Bride and Groom then chose to give whomever they’d like access to view the pictures. In addition, they will be able to print any of these pictures onto a personalized thank you card to send to friends and family for FREE!

It’s really easy to use and a great way to compile ALL of the pictures that were taken the day of the wedding.

Give it a try and let me know what you think or if you have any other questions for me let me know. We hope you like Kaptur so much that you might blog about it so all of your loyal followers will use Kaptur too!

Please spread the word to your friends getting married or anyone else who would like to have an easy and fun way to “Kaptur” and relive favorite memories.

If you have any more questions I would be happy to talk to you about this in more detail.
